Updated: Apr 14, 2023

Happy National Sports Day!

In 1983, President Soeharto set September 9 as National Sports Day, coinciding with the first time Indonesia held a National Sports Week (PON). The commemoration of National Sports Day is aimed at increasing sportsmanship and developing sports in Indonesia, but we can also interpret it as a reminder to keep exercising in the midst of our routines!

Are you one of those people who exercise regularly?

If so, then keep going!

If you haven't, from now on, let's take time every day to exercise, even if it's only a short amount of time.

Why is exercising important?

Because exercise is not only beneficial for physical health, but also mental health!

Here are some of the benefits of exercise, especially for mental health according to various studies:

1. Exercise can help reduce stress, depression, and anxiety

Regular exercise can increase the production of the hormone norepinephrine which is useful for managing the brain's response to stress. In addition, exercise can also increase the production of the hormone dopamine which can produce feelings of happiness and reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety. Exercise can also relax us and reduce muscle tension caused by the anxiety we experience.

2. Exercise can help us gain confidence

Exercise is beneficial to our physical health. This will make a person have the view that by exercising regularly, he can achieve a healthier condition. This can help her develop self-confidence and have a more positive outlook on her appearance

3. Exercise can lessen burn out

According to Yale dan Oxford studies, It was found that people who exercise regularly are generally happier than those who rarely exercise. Someone who regularly exercises tends to feel burnout for about 18 days a year, while those who rarely exercise or even don't exercise feel burnout for 35 days or more a year.

In fact, there are still many benefits of exercise for our physical and mental health. Then, the question:

How many times is the recommended routine exercise for a week?

Based on some studies 3-5x sessions of between 30-60 minutes a week is the ideal thing to do. Then, what kind of exercise should be done, especially for beginners?
